PROVERB PRACTICALS

Proverbs 6:23,  For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

A father and a mother must always remember for whom they are training their children.

They are not to simply correct or chastise, so that they have peace and quiet (Hebrews 12:9 calls it after their own pleasure) but they are to correct their children that they may, down the road of life, be used of God.

Reproof must be regarded highly as instruction of great value and as an act of love.

And that needs to be communicated to the child.

There must be a knowledge that reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

If eternal life is to be gained then reproofs are that which will lead one to eternal life.

Oh! How important then is reproof.

Chastisement! Correction. Here a little, there a little!

How important it is to hear the Word of God with the understanding that it is given to reprove, rebuke and exhort.

That is the norm of the Word of God and to despise that is to despise the purpose of the Word of God.

For a church body to forsake reproof in its services, in favor of pleasantries and tickled ears is to forsake the way of life.

Proverbs 13:18,  Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

Proverbs 15:5,  A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

Proverbs 15:31,  The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

Proverbs 15:32,  He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

Proverbs 17:10,  A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

The very teaching that these proverbs state about reproof must be taught to the child.

The very act of reproof must be elevated to a high place of honor.

Reproof is proof that you are in the family.

Fathers and a mothers makes themselves fathers and mothers by reproving their children.

I think that the Bible is clear in that a child will not know in his or her heart that he or she is a part of the family unless reproof is a way of life

Biblical reproof contributes to good mental health in children.

Proverbs 3:11,12,  My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction, For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

There must be teaching that reproofs are a gift of God and gifts of God must never be resisted.

Stiffening up or exhibiting a prideful attitude must never be tolerated.

Reproofs are to produce a humble soul.

Reproofs are to produce a child that realizes he is poor and needy.

Always in need and welcome of God’s reproof.

A child that will say to those that reprove, Thank you, I needed that.

A child who will react cheerfully to reproof knowing that it comes from a mother or a father who always has their best interest at heart.

This is the kind of child that will grow into an adult and tell God, after receiving reproof, Thank you, I needed that!

"I know that you are always looking after me and that whatever comes my way comes from a God who loves me."

(Discuss ways that you use in your homes to get this kind of result.)

You learn to deal with reproof because it is to be a life long action.

Those that regard reproof will be those who in due time will be honored.

Regarding reproof means paying attention to its lessons and learning from its lessons.

It is wise and it is smart to regard or pay attention to reproof.

Responding correctly to reproof is a building block to understanding and growing.

Those that do not regard reproof are doomed to not grow and to not grow is to die.

Proverbs 6:20-22,  My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
